HOST-PATHOGEN INTERACTIONS

Host-Pathogen Interactions

Intracellular pathogens establish infections by interacting with host cells and suppressing innate human defense systems. Our research focuses on effector proteins (virulence factors) shuttled into the host cytosol by Burkholderia spp., Francisella tularensis, and Coxiella burnetii and the host proteins with which they interact. We use bioinformatics tools to infer these interactions, verify them via in vitro yeast two-hybrid assays, and validate them by in vivo infectivity murine models.
